Probably, when most of us hear Mongolia the first thing that comes to our minds is Genghis Khan. A king (Khan) that united Mongolia and concurred almost half of the world. In this edition of the Continental Drift show we explore variety of traditional, folk, instrumental, and modern music of Mongolia which is strongly influenced by Tibetan mongoliaBuddhism, the dominant religion of Mongolia. As any other country with an ancient history, Mongolia has incredibly vast and diverse styles and types of music and we tried to reflect this in our playlist. On this show, we also investigated the following traditional musical instruments of Mongolia: Hel Khuur (Jew’s Harp), Limbe, Morin Khuur, Yatga, Hokhuur, and Shanz. For more information and pictures of these instruments please click here. Most of the music for this show came from two compilation albums: Oriental Charm Series: Mongolia and Vocal & Instrumental Music Of Mongolia.
