World Music on Continental Drift

Portugal’s music is influenced by Ancient Rome, the rich artistic European tradition, and Arabic music. Around 13th century Arabs brought along with them their culture and music and were the inspiration to Portuguese guitar. This inspiration is also manifested in Fado style in which a lot of chantings and Portuguese guitar are used.  Recently, Portugal has become one the top exporters of music in modern genres such as metal (Moonspell) which comepetes with it Fado genre  (Mariza). On tis edition of Continental Drift, as usual we started the show with traditional and older songs and then showcased thcreative e contemporary music of Portugal.
