Hindi Pop

Classical Indian music is probably one of the most well-known genres under World Music category. Along with this legendary style, a new wave of music is rapidly growing and becoming overwhelmingly popular in and outside of India. Indian pop music (a.k.a. Hindi Music) that partly owes its popularity to Bollywood is the theme of this edition of Continental Drift. The first two tracks, however, are Bhangra music which primarily uses a large, high-bass drum called dhol. We also checked in with our friend Naomi Silver who runs a multi-cultural website featuring videos, music, photos, etc. from variety of international groups. You can check out her website here. This show was co-produced by the host of the Gharana Music on WREK, Karan Mehra.
