venice1In this edition of Continental Drift, Felipe takes you back to the spring of 2009 for a trip back to Italy! Not only does he revisit the country and the sounds we’ve heard before, but he also brings you a bit more that was not on the last episode! Plus, an all new Global Shuffle!

Italy has greatly contributed to many musical genres such as Classical, religious, Opera,  and folk. Expansion of Christianity throughout Italy was accompanied  by the blossoming and growth of many branches of art including music which became integrated into church and rituals and were exported to numerous countries along with Christianity. Italy was also once an important international business hub and attracted millions of travelers from the middle and far east; traces of which are still found in the music and instruments of Italy. The emphasis of this edition of Continental Drift was not so much on the classical and traditional style but rather on folk and contemporary songs and instrumental pieces within which a beautiful diversity is embedded.
