Not only does he revisit the country and the sounds we’ve heard before, but he also brings you a bit more that was not on the last episode! Plus, an all new Global Shuffle!

Italy has greatly contributed to many musical genres such as Classical, religious, Opera, and folk. Expansion of Christianity throughout Italy was accompanied by the blossoming and growth of many branches of art including music which became integrated into church and rituals and were exported to numerous countries along with Christianity. Italy was also once an important international business hub and attracted millions of travelers from the middle and far east; traces of which are still found in the music and instruments of Italy. The emphasis of this edition of Continental Drift was not so much on the classical and traditional style but rather on folk and contemporary songs and instrumental pieces within which a beautiful diversity is embedded.

Felipe’s taking you south for the winter to the South American county of Paraguay for this edition of Continental Drift! With musical styles and rhythms to keep you moving, music from this part of the world is known for its distinct sound. The Paraguayan harp and Paraguayan polka are major players here, and Felipe even gives you some music originating in other parts of Latin America performed by Paraguayan artists! That’s what we like here at Continental Drift: a little bit of cross pollination in this great world of ours…

Felipe brings you the music and artists of the Czech Republic on this edition of Continental Drift. With roots in the opera and traditional music of Bohemia and Moravia, the music of this European country has become somewhat of a mix of many different, diverse genres, from ska to bluegrass, traditional to contemporary, even a television music theme from a native Czech! Just what you would expect from WREK and some change

The second hour in this program is particularly unique, because due to technical difficulties (Felipe loves those), an old record from WREK’s vault’s Continental Drift shelf was dusted off and played in its entirety for a change in a (very rare) installment of a beta-testing-stage segment called “World Album Hour!”. Felipe regrets that the album did not conform to the night’s theme, but it still showcased the world music we all love to hear Mondays from 10 PM until midnight!

Also make sure to check out this edition of Global Shuffle, but due to technical difficulties at the time of recording, the Global Shuffle segment consisted of two songs from WREK’s regular rotation music.
