In this edition of Continental Drift, we explore the music of Arab world from multiple Arab countries. Arab culture and music has a very old history and has been shaped and influenced by many other cultures from the far east and the west and at the same time has had a strong influence on the Western music. Also, Arab dance and in particular belly dance is very widespread. Another outstanding feature of the Arab music is diversity of the instruments. Percussion, Oud (a string instrument), and Nay (a wind instrument similar to flute) are among many instruments that give the Arab music its beauty and uniqueness. The following playlist contains some instrumental pieces, songs with chanting of Arabic poems, dance music, and folk styles to give the listener a glimpse of the Arab music.
