Mr. Locke has been nominated by the Native American Music Awards for awards (Nammys) in three categories:  Artist of the Year, Flutist of the Year, and Record of the Year for his newest album, Earth Gift. We though it might be appropriate to rebroadcast that show since we had an extensive discussion with Mr. Locke about the history of Native American music, his influences, hoop dance, and many other interesting facts about Native American culture and lifestyle. On this edition of the Continental Drift Show, we explore the Native American music and culture and to better understand this surprisingly vast and diverse culture we had an interview with Kevin Locke, one the most prominent and award winning Native American flute players and hoop dancers. In our conversation, we discussed various aspects of the Native American music and culture specifically that of South Dakota, Kevin Locke’s home state.
