Majority of Kurdish people live in western Iran, southern Turkey, northern Iraq, and Armenia. This has caused lots of variations in Kurdish music from region to region while preserving the essence of Kurdish music. Kurds residing in western Iran have adopted Persian instruments such as Tar and Tonbak while Kurds living in Turkey use Tanbur. Despite this mixture, Kurkish music has a very unique style and sound to it and could easily be told apart from the original music of those countries. On this edition of Continental Drift, we tried to cover a wide range of Kurdish music from mostly Iran and Turkey. In our playlist you can find some famous names in Kurdish music such as Ali Akbar Moradi and Sivan Perwer and some traditional instrumental and vocal pieces. As always, make sure to check out the pages of the friends of the show on MySpace.com whose music we play in Global Shuffle segment.
