Being the largest country in the world, Russia has a great of diversity of culture and ethnic groups and where diversity exists beauty rises. Russia has been marked as one the most innovative countries in classical music most of which toke place in early 1800’s. Just like many other things in this country, Russian music experienced drastic changes and ups and downs. During the Soviet Era and oppressions in that period, music very quickly became one of the only voices of the opposition groups which was on the rise too. This era also was the start of romances (in exotic Russian, Caucasian, Gypsy and Italian styles). Moving to the post-Soviet era, Russians also adopted rock and electronic music and introduced many popular bands to the world. On this edition of the Continental Drift, we tried to spend more time exploring some newer Russian bands that are very innovative while preserving the traditions and roots of their motherland.
