Founded in 1968, WREK Atlanta is the student owned and operated radio station of Georgia Institute of Technology. WREK programs are being broadcast live 24/7 from the Student Center to Metro Atlanta’s atmosphere at the frequency of 91.1 MHz and with the power of 40,000 Watts as well as online at www.wrek.org. The philosophy and tradition of this station has been broadcasting “quality diverse programming” which intends to cover a wide range of musical genres such as Jazz, Classical, Rock, Blues, Electronic, Metal, Country, Alternative, World, and any other imaginable and unimaginable styles. Among many breakthrough achievements of WREK are being one of the first radio stations in the world to stream on the Internet, the technology for which was developed and implemented by Georgia Tech students. In 2008, the FCC approved WREK’s application to raise its broadcasting power to 100,000 Watts and it will implemented by 2010. Almost all the staff at WREK are students and work voluntarily.
